By offering a feeling of empowerment and freedom throughout this new single, the Nashville-based artist designed he perfect Spring tune.
“Giving Up” is now available worldwide.
Hi! How are you? What have you been up to since our first interview?
Hiiii! I've been doing well! I have been in the studio, working on new music, playing shows, writing songs, all of the music things! :)
You've just released your new single "Giving Up". What's the story behind this song?
I wrote this song after I watched a couple of my girlfriends go through really hard break ups. As a friend, watching someone feel heartbroken is just awful, and to be honest, I really felt like they were better off alone. I just wanted to write a song that reminded them of their worth, and made them feel like it was going to be okay. As hard as losing love can be, you also get a lot of freedom back in the sense that your whole future opens up. I wanted them to feel empowered.
When did you start working on this particular song?
I believe we actually wrote this song in September of 2018! The production was a collaborative process between me and my co-writer, Jonny Mo. We got the recording fairly close right after we wrote it, and then I added a lot of extra things earlier this year.
You co-wrote/produced the song with Jonny Mo. How's it like to collaborate with him?
I adore Jonny Mo! He is such a talented writer and artist, he wrote my last single, "Float," with me as well. I think the thing that I appreciate the most about working with him is his willingness to be creative and try things. He has helped me to own my role as producer. He records samples everywhere he goes and is very curious. I appreciate that. A lot of the time, when you are working with people that write songs every day, the spark for the music isn't as alive as maybe it once was. Jonny really pushes to do cool stuff. I love it!
What do you like the most about this song?
There are a couple things. I really love that this song is a feel-good anthem. I tend to write a lot of ballads and more introspective songs, and it feels really good to have something light that makes people dance and let go for a few minutes. I also love the pre-chorus lyrics - "I'm water falling free, put it on repeat, I feel like myself again" -- they just embodied how I wanted my friends to feel.
What made you want to release "Giving Up" as a single?
Honestly, my 2nd single of this new phase of music was supposed to be different! I started playing this song out late last year and the response was really overwhelming. People loved the fun nature of it and I could sense that it would be a really good follow up to my last single, "Float." Something a bit lighter, great for the summer, that I genuinely just have so much fun listening to and playing.
What do you people to feel when listening to this song?
Empowered! I've said this before about this song, but just knowing deeply that sometimes when someone gives up on you, you get yourself back. To me, you have to love yourself and be cool with being alone before you can ever be in a great relationship anyway.
What are your currently working on? Are your working on an EP/album?
I have about 10 songs that I am SO excited about. It's still TBD how I will release them but all I know is that they are coming :)
What message do you want to deliver to the readers of this blog?
I'm just trying to be real. I want people to know that they can rely on my music for honesty and transparency..and a place that they can go when they need to feel their feelings or let them go.
